Day 1 and 2 of the Military Diet

Day 1

I DID IT! I finished Day 1 with success! I had some times when I was struggling for snacks...but other than that I finished things and spaced out my eating times perfectly. What I learned right off the bat is to "savor" every bite so I can spread out the time I'm eating. That way my mind thinks I'm really eating a larger meal when instead I'm just taking bites and pausing between them so the food lasts longer. My biggest challenge? Choking down 1/2 cup of tuna...YUCK! I have never been a big fan of tuna...never really tried it until doing this diet and I'm just glad I got it done. When I looked at the meal plan for day 2 and 3, I prepared myself to choke down a whole cup each day. I was looking forward to dinner because I got to each so much more...and yet somehow I still ate less than what I was supposed to! The plan calls for 1 WHOLE cup each of green beans and carrots...AND the ice cream!! I ate only 1/2 cup of each :( I realized my mistake when I was going to bed at midnight....*sigh* Oh well. I've been tracking my calories using MyFitnessPal which is an awesome tool! Because yesterday's was off a little, the Calories were more than what I recorded. What I really love about the tool is the barcode scanner so you can TRULY get the content from that specific product -- even if it's store brand.

Day 2

So far, so good. I'm currently eating my lunch while I type this. Well...attempting to eat it. Basically I'm taking huge bites of tuna and choking it down with gulps of water. I also have my FIVE saltine crackers to accompany it. Breakfast was pretty great though. The best thing I like about this challenge is that it's taking me outside of my comfort box and making me try new foods that I've never really like with my food palate. This morning it was 1 slice of toast, 1 egg and a banana. I ended up cooking my egg over easy, and made a mini sandwich with my toast and ate it that way. Pretty easy and quick filling too. Tonight will be 2 hot dogs, some broccoli, carrots, another banana and some more ice cream (this time it really is 1/2 cup... :( ). Halfway there...I know I can do this!

One bonus feeling was...I peeked and stepped on the scale from yesterday to today. I was down 4 lbs!! I just stepped on it again before lunch to double check...YEP still there! :) Major confidence booster! Let's hope it continues to work and by day 4 my final weigh in will be promising!

My biggest thing getting through this all has been prayer though. I haven't cheated on it with snacks or given in. Instead I've been praying for strength and keep reminding me myself about how it's worth a shot. Don't give in; push through it and I can always achieve anything through Christ who strengthens me!
